Redneck Vacation

If you're wondering why there has been a lack of posts lately, it's because theres been a lack of progress. In the past 2 weeks, Derek fixed a hole in the wall (keyword: a)

and installed a garage keypad and clicker openers.

In other news, the Goodfriends left the state for our first vacation since buying our home. We went to the beautiful state of Louisiana.

While there, we visited our fabulous friends and had a wonderfully relaxing redneck vacation! It was great! Normally, we go on a vacation to sight see or go to a theme park or do something specific. That requires us to wake up early and go to bed late, making sure to cram as much into a day as possible, and when you get home you're exhausted. Not this vacation! We went there to see our friends, and that's it. So, we slept in everyday and had some good 'ol redneck fun! Now some people might think that calling our vacation redneck is derogatory, as if we didn't have any fun. But in actuality, it's a compliment. We did some fun things that we can't do in the city.

I shot a gun for the first time...

And so did Derek...

We also went on a family four wheeler adventure...

And we went on a drive-thru bar tour. Yup, I said drive thru bar...

(See the tape on the cup? That's how they get around the open container laws... clever)

So, while not much has happened around the house, plenty has happened in our lives. Hopefully though, the next post will include more house happenings. ;)

The Many Wants of Home Ownership

Lots going on  around here, so much so that I forgot to post last week! Last week, Tom of Boyd's Pest Control came on by to protect our home from termites, get rid of our pesky ghost ants, and share his general enthusiasm about bugs...
(He's fabulous and very reasonable. If you're looking for someone, his number is 407-408-9020) While Tom was trenching and spraying, Derek and I decided to finish removing the landscaping fabric. Yes, I said I, as in I helped!
and it's much tougher than it loooks...
That stuff was in there good, and it made me regret sleeping in and doing this instead of running.

The next day, Derek decided to relocate Lucy's dog door. You see, we found out, rather unfortunately, that she has an affinity for carpet, so during the day we had to keep her locked out of the room where her dog door was located. This time, instead of a in the slider dog door, Derek put it right in the wall, and Lucy wasn't the first one to be interested in it.

Now it's complete, and it looks and works great!

This was on the priority list of things to get done, but then again what isn't? Lately I've been feeling like this house will never be completely done or even presentable. There are just so many wants when you're a home owner. Here are a few of ours:

A working master shower and toilet.

Tile in the hallway so we don't have to go carpet hopping.

A bathroom that doesn't include pink anything, and that doesn't have a "hand painted" cabinet

Walls that aren't fixed with duct tape, and whatever that sandy mess is.

A kitchen counter top that is attached and not floating precariously above the old counter top.

A kitchen table that doesn't double as our folding tailgate table, and that is surrounded by matching chairs, not an outside chair and an office chair.

A garage I can park in.

A flat wall instead of a non-fuctional entertainment system.

Ceilings with texture on them, walls that are painted, ceiling fans, and can light removal in our bedroom.

Tile that matches and isn't hideously ugly, or crazy slippery.

A washer that doesn't smell.

The list could go on forever. But then again, we're fun people, and just like home improvements take time, so does fun. And recently, I needed time for a little less this...

and a lot more this...
